    It is a legal requirement that all proposed installation work in dwellings has to be notified to Building Control before work commences. This includes solar thermal hot water installations.

    Schemes based on getting funding for the customer have proven very costly to join and often unfruitful for the contractor. However, savings can be made through self-certification.

    The two-day course includes both training and assessment, ensuring that candidates will gain the necessary skills to install all components required. On successful completion of the course, candidates will be awarded a certificate from the NICEIC enabling them to join a scheme that entitles them to self-certify. The certificate is renewable every five years.
