Those installing main equipotential bonding but are not electrically qualified can do so by obtaining a MEB1 award. This will be on sale from January 2008.
Health and Safety Training
We intend to offer Health and Safety training with a difference. Health and Safety is a minefield. Most employers are aware they should undertake it but not sure what to do. We plan to offer a simplistic approach making it easy to meet the requirements for those working in the field or in an office.
You might have already heard that the unvented hot water qualification is now renewable every five years. This means that many engineers have to renew within the next twelve months. Secondly, for those wishing to self certify plumbing work under Part G of the Building Regulations will require a water regulations qualification. Both awards are available through us and are one day each in duration.

ADVICE BEING GIVEN OUT ON STAND
Recently Piper Assessment Ltd held two Seminars discussing the implications of ACS requirements and Building Regulations on businesses. High profile speakers were engaged to discuss these issues with both Seminars totalling approximately 200 attendees.

|
| Chairman TERRY ESPIN hosted the event and called for clarification on self-certification | The first guest speaker, STEVE MULVANY, who warned ofthe forthcoming increased demand for ACS assessments. He stated that to date only 101,000 of the 832,000 ACS assessments have been re-assessed. He advised businesses to bear this in mind when planning their training need and book well in advance of the certificate’sexpiry date. | This was followed by MARK ROLFE, who stated that many engineers are undertaking electrical work without the necessary certification. In many circumstances a minor works certificate must be issued, something that customers are now requesting. |

|
|
| This view was supported by another guest speaker Mitch Millar of Mitch Millar Solar Solutions, who explained that holding Part P qualification has allowed him to significantly increase his scope of work and, in fact, increase his rates accordingly. | BOB TOWSE, the third speaker warned that, as the governmentis not meeting its emissions target, Part L legislation is likely to increase in severity. He suggested that one option could be adopting the policy of ‘consequential improvement’ which would involve engineers considering the efficiency of the whole building and investigating the economic feasibility of other energy saving measures whilst carrying out installation work. | Finally, WAYNE TERRY discussed other effects of Building Regulations on businesses. He raised the need to have premises, tools, plant and materials appropriate to the range and scale of Building Regulations work undertaken. Also, businesses must have immediate access to the latest edition of relevant and appropriate reference documents. |

| Chief Executive Steve Wright close the event pledging a commitment to strive to help customer to gain a better understanding of regulations. |
